So you’re making art (or you want to be making art), and it feels profoundly important to you. You have a special project to start, to continue, or to finish and you’re feeling paralyzed. I’m here to help get you going in the direction of your dreams.

It matters not what your mode of artistic expression is. It matters not whether you’re a seasoned professional or a brand new beginner or anything in between. Maybe you feel intimidated or terrified of failure. Maybe nobody around you understands what the hell you’re talking about, or they’re just sick and tired of listening to you.

Call me your creative comrade-in-arms. An artistic-type confidant you call to help unearth the trouble, to find a new perspective, to deeply listen to you. Someone who’s been around the block a whole lot of times and can relate, who won’t mock you or judge you or admonish you. I’m someone who truly believes that your impulse to create is a worthy and essential endeavor.

On my own artistic journeys over the decades, I’ve become intimately acquainted with those sharp-toothed demons that lurk along the internal roads of the creative process. The anxiety, frustration, procrastination, defeat, exhaustion — all the many madnesses that can present themselves. You name the demon, I’ve wrestled with it.

And throughout my travels, I have found one of the most rejuvenating ways to keep on keeping on is an empathetic ear and a resonating spirit. My creative resolve has been bolstered and revived by soulful conversations countless times over the years. And I have found it profoundly satisfying and truly enriching whenever I’ve have the opportunity to support and encourage others in the cultivation of their own creative expression.

So, I’ve been to the dark side and I can meet you in yours. Years ago, I volunteered on a suicide hotline and was trained to get to the heart of the matter ASAP, which is exactly what you and I will do. Zip through the small talk and dive in, boots on. Honesty is the password.

This can sound intimidating to some – especially to those folks with a deep streak of introversion. (Fear not! I, too, am a card-carrying member of that tribe.) That’s why we will have a phone conversation – not a video conversation. It is infinitely easier to unburden your soul to a stranger when you’re not being stared at and feeling horribly self-conscious, but are only being listened to, with complete focus.

It is important to understand that I am not a licensed therapist of any kind, nor a licensed life coach. I am a creative confidant, whose sole aim is to help you get off the phone with some fresh wind in your sails. Don’t get me wrong: I won’t be talking in a breathy voice about how it can all be fixed if you just think positively. I’m here to dive into the deep end with you. And of course, everything you tell me is held in the strictest confidence.

~ Though I’m happy to discuss the feelings you may be experiencing if you’re encountering difficulties blending art and commerce, I will not advise you on any business decisions (ie: marketing, social media, money-making, how to get your work noticed, how to get hired as an artist). And I definitely won’t advise you on how to get your child into show business.

~ I don’t teach acting, I don’t edit writing, and I don’t evaluate or give feeback on your artistic creation. I’m here to help you help you dissolve any impediments to your progress.

My fee is 108.00 an hour, paid via Paypal (one hour minimum).

To book an appointment, send an email to James Conklin with the subject line “CE Appointment.” Tell him the time zone you’re in, and give him a few options for appointment times that would work for you. He will get back to you as soon as possible.

I very much look forward to speaking with you!
